Jets ready for "frustrating" run-in...

...but Royce has a simple solution

JETS have extra challenges on the long run-in to the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland season – but there are simple solutions says captain Royce Brownlie.

Having led the competition since round three, Jets have set the pace and thrown down the gauntlet to many of the state’s top clubs.

Some have made tactical responses and we will doubtless see others following in the remaining 10 fixtures.

“Teams are trying to frustrate us and cut down the way we play,” said Brownlie, on the eve of Sunday’s visit of SW Queensland Thunder, to Wolter Park, kick-off 2pm.

“But there’s nothing better than having an opponent worrying about the way you play.

"We just have to stick to how we play – and work twice as hard.

“Everyone’s looking at the ladder to see what’s happening. We’ve still got games in hand and we’re in a good position.

“We just have to try and enjoy this and set the standard. Now a slip-up for us is dropping a point, like last week (in a 1-1 draw at Sunshine Coast).”

And Brownlie, one of Jets’ foundation players and last season’s Golden Boot winner who has 58 NPL goals to his credit, is as good as his word.

“I’m loving it,” he said, “we’ve got a good group of boys, this season we have multiple goal scorers, but also our defence is a lot stronger.

“Everyone’s happy and we have a lot of hard-working players. That’s one of the keys.

"When I was at Peninsula Power with Terry (Kirkham) there were bigger clubs, but we worked harder.

“You can have a team of superstars, but it doesn’t guarantee you a superstar team.’’
