Coach's tribute to double-winning stars

THREE of last season’s double-winning Jets’ team will not be returning for the 2016 PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland campaign.

Defenders Alex Henderson, Matthew Zappone and Ryota Nakaoka are all heading overseas next year.

Henderson, who scored our first goal in the Grand Final against Strikers, is going to Europe and is likely to spend time in Britain and Ireland.

At the time of writing, he said he had not given much thought to playing over there and may take a break for 12 months.

Zappone is also planning to travel overseas, while Nakaoka is heading to Germany where he will look to continue his career.

Jets’ coach Adam Piddick paid tribute to all three players, who were key figures in winning the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Premiership and Grand Final.

“I’ve known Alex for quite a while and played with him at Strikers,” said Piddick, “this was his best year by far. He’s very keen on his football and leaves big shoes to fill.

“Matthew’s energy at full back, his work rate up and down the pitch and his attitude will take some replacing.

“Ryota did very well at full back last season, having not played there before. He was getting better and better and was the ultimate pro in everything he did.”

With Scott Stewart and Luke Borean, the trio formed part of the second best defence in the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland last season.

We wish all three the best of luck on their travels, thank them for helping Jets soar to the incredible heights of last season and hope that one day we will see them back at Wolter Park.
