New signings will keep everyone on their toes, says Jets' coach Adam Piddick

JETS face a clash of the state champions tonight in round one of the Macron Cup.

As PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Premiers and grand final winners, Jets take on cup hosts and BPL grand final winners Peninsula Power, kick-off 7pm.

It will be Jets’ fourth pre-season match, but only the second with the majority of the senior squad available.

Two of the newcomers who faced Mitchelton last weekend and North Pine on Tuesday are both from the same country – Japan.

Taiga Ishikura and Joi Masuda have signed on and are already making an impression at the club.

Taiga, who plays wide on the right, played BPL with Ipswich Knights last season, scoring seven goals in 20 gamea and won the club’s Golden Boot and Players’ Player of the Year awards.

He said joining Jets was a “step up” and he was happy to be testing himself “at a higher level”.

Joi, a more central midfielder who recently starred for his university in Japan, impressed from his first training session, just 24 hours after arriving in Australia.

He joined Moreton Bay United after being impressed by the club’s progress in its first three years and because it was one of the “strongest teams in the competition”.

Jets’ technical director Adam Piddick said: “I’d seen Taiga play last year and he has some abilities which match the way we want to go as a football club.

“He’s a young player who we see plenty of improvement and potential in.

“Joi’s obviously new and has impressed in his limited time with us. As we’re trying to build and improve the squad with depth, these two boys will keep everyone on their toes. I’m sure they’ll have a good season this year.”
