Jets soar to second cup win

MORETON Bay United continued their impressive pre-season form with a 4-2 win over Olympic FC in the Macron Cup on Saturday night - making it two wins from two cup games.

Royce Brownlie, Jordan Farina, Alex Janovsky and Jacob Fulluck shared in the spoils for Jets, while Yoeil Shol and Sam Cronin continued their impressive pre-season scoring form with a goal apiece for Olympic.

Contested in heavy rain, the A.J.Kelly Park pitch held firm throughout the contest as Jets crafted the better of the early opportunities.

However, Jets spurned an early chance to take the lead from the penalty spot – Farina seeing his attempt saved by Olympic goalkeeper Brandon Cuminao.

The pressure told approaching the hour when Brownlie opened accounts courtesy of a sharp pass from Jackson Hall – the veteran striker dropping a shoulder to create space before delivering the finish.

Parity was restored just minutes later as Shol provided the finishing touches to an Olympic counter-attack to continue his prolific pre-season form.

However, Farina soon made amends for his earlier miscue to restore Jets’ advantage – turning in a solid header after being picked out by Ray Schultz’s cross.

The momentum remained with Jets after the restart as Janovsky converted a stunning effort– the off-season recruit beating three players as he dribbled near the byline before sneaking a near post finish past Cuminao.

Olympic again flirted with a comeback as Cronin delivered a long-range screamer – his third such goal of the pre-season – to half the margin just after the hour.

But a defensive lapse again proved Olympic’s undoing as Fulluck wrapped up the result after being played through by Taiga Ishikura – skimming home a low finish in the ensuing one-on-one.

Moreton Bay continue their pre-season preparations against another PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues rival next Saturday when they face Gold Coast City.

While Olympic return to the BLK Silver Boot on Tuesday night where they line-up against Brisbane Premier League outfit Logan Lightning.
