Second title in three years for amazing team

JETS’ Under 15 Girls finished a remarkable PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland season today with their 21st win in 22 matches!

Despite wrapping up their PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland last week with two games to spare, the girls followed Wednesday's 8-0 defeat of Easts with a 2-1 victory at Sunshine Coast this afternoon.

That left them with 63 points, well clear of second-placed Souths. Jets scored 124 goals and conceded just 20. Four of the top six scorers in the NPL Qld Under 15 Girls this season are Jets - Sharn Freier 32; Indiah Riley 31; Grace Cousins, Laini Freier 17.

“It’s been a fantastic effort by all the girls,” said coach Phil Hughes, “there’s been total commitment to win the title two years out of three.

“It just shows what a wonderful group of players this is and hopefully they will go on to bigger and better things next year.”

The domination has come despite playing without a goalkeeper for half the season!

“We haven’t had a keeper for the last eight weeks because Evie (Ruffle) pulled two discs in her back and couldn’t walk so we’ve had an outfield player in goal,” said Hughes.

“I think to continue what they’ve done after that is fantastic and shows how much the girls are together as a team and want to do their best for the team.”

The platform was established in the first 10 games of this season. “We blitzed everybody, eight, nine, 10 goals,” said Hughes.

“Mind you there was an extra incentive - our sponsor offered to take us all to dinner if we won the first 10 games. We did and he did.”

Other notable achievements this season: Jazlyn Salih represented Queensland at the NPL Nationals while Indiah Riley, Sharn Freier and Reilly Ward are in a Queensland Schools team to tour Japan next month.

This season Annabelle Rafael, Sharn Freier, Indiah Riley, Reilly Ward, Gabriela Green, Victoria Franklin, Jazlyn Salih and Jasmin Warburton were all selected for the Queensland State Championships
