Why Green returned to gold

STEPHEN Green is back. Just 12 months after joining Redlands, the 22-year-old midfielder has returned to Moreton Bay United.

Green was a member of Jets’ double-winning side in 2015 and made it a Grand Final double with Redlands in September.

But it was after that 3-2 victory over FNQ Heat at Perry Park, that his move back to Wolter Park and the gold colours of Moreton Bay United began.

“(Technical director) Adam (Piddick) approached me after the grand final,” said Green.

“I didn’t have a bad time last time I was here and it just seemed like the right thing to do (to return).

“I’ve sorted everything out with work and uni - it’s all settled down.

“It makes it a lot easier coming back when there are familiar faces like Matt Capelo, Liam (Previtera) and Jayke (Cushieri)…. players from the old team.

“I think my game has improved especially after playing against teams like Adelaide, in the FFA Cup.

“But one thing that has improved is off the field, doing proper stuff like gym rehab and making sure I’m fit games. That’s what I’m focussing on this year after so many injuries.”

Green scored five goals in 11 games for Jets in 2015. Last season he netted three times in 14 games for Redlands, but was hampered by injury.

“He was integral to us winning the double a couple of seasons ago and it is great to have him back,” said Jets’ head coach Dave Harris.

“He’s another forward player who can break the line, get in behind defenders, has lots of pace and great engine, which is fantastic.”
