Bek Doward, who played for Moreton Bay United last season, has completed a remarkable football double.
The 13 year old won a NPL Qld Premiership with Jets and has been named Football Brisbane’s Best First Year Youth Referee.
It was quite an achievement as Bek combined playing and training with Jets’ NPL Under 13 Girls title-winning team with refereeing outdoors and indoor futsal and school work.
“I enjoy refereeing and enjoy being outdoors,” says Bek, who is a Level 4 Football Brisbane referee outdoors and Level 3 in Football Queensland’s SEQ Futsal competition.

“I always good time refereeing young kids and navigate them through their footballing journeys. Have a bit of fun.”
Bek, from Bracken Ridge, started playing football at the age of six joining Ridge Hills. Last season she joined Moreton Bay United from North Star and in 2021 will be at Mitchelton.
“I started refereeing Miniroos Under 7 and really liked it … and the pocket money! Then I started my Level 4 referee course at Football Brisbane.
“Outdoors I referee my age group and below. I try to always stay calm and collected, try to manage a situation and have a calm word with players, if necessary.”
When asked if she has a preference, playing or refereeing Bek says: “It’s a tie, but eventually I’d like to be a FIFA referee.”
