Danny brings x-factor

Danny Champness back at Moreton Bay United and Wolter Park.

Danny Champness is back at Wolter Park in the gold and black - via North Star, New Zealand and Turkey!

The 21-year-old striker, who rose through our junior ranks to the senior side, returns a stronger and more experienced player.

After a short spell at North Star last season he moved, as planned, to Auckland and joined Northern National League club Eastern Suburbs.

“I was there four months, playing, training … having a great time,” Danny said. “I think I grew up a lot in New Zealand.

“It was physical, I was playing week in, week out, training every day straight in the gym. Scored a few goals and my confidence went up.”

He then flew to Turkey to join brother Joey - the former ACE, Jets, Brisbane Roar and Newcastle Jets striker – who was with Super League side Giresunspor.

Danny Champness after scoring in the 2021 NPL U23 Grand Final, which Jets won in 4-2 in extra time.

“I trained with a few squads over there,” Danny said. “Then Cammy (Millar) asked what my plans were next year and I was really excited to come back.

“Going into the new season I want to show everyone why I am back and contribute a lot to this squad.

“The club has big plans going forward and I want to get into the first XI and play as much as I can.”

Danny is well known to coach Cameron Millar, who was in charge of our Under 23s last season when they won the Grand Final in extra time. Danny was one of the scorers in the 4-2 thriller.

Cam said he is "very happy" to welcome Danny back to the club for the 2023 season.

"I have spent a lot of time working with Danny over the years, he is an exciting player who certainly has the x-factor," he said.

"I know what Danny is capable of and I look forward to pushing him to reach his potential."
