Georgia takes her chance

Georgia Martell who will be joining Jets mid-next season.

Georgia Martell says she "jumped at the opportunity to join Moreton Bay United”.

The 19-year-old goalkeeper is currently at the University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky and will be joining Jets mid-season 2023.

When she does, Georgia will be no stranger to FQPL 1 having played at that level for The Gap earlier this year.

“I have many friends who have played for Moreton Bay over the years,” she said from the US.

“They speak very highly of the club and the level of professionalism in which the club expects.

“From speaking to some of these friends I learned of a possible opportunity for me to join the club while on my summer break from college.

“I jumped at the opportunity to play for MBU.

“I’m looking forward to playing with some of the girls I have played with before including Thalia (Cameron) and Yazmin (Baird-Watson) and meeting new people and forming new friendships.”

Georgia has lived in different parts of Australia, but Brisbane is home. She started playing at Moggill and then joined UQ and Easts in the NPL.

In 2019 she was selected for the Brisbane Roar NTC program - which became the QAS - and played there for two years.

After completing high school at the end of 2020, Georgia went to the University of South Carolina Aiken and then transferred to University of the Cumberlands (UC).

UC plays in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) and is ranked third in the United States.

It had 18 wins, two losses, three draws and post season qualified for the National Championships, reaching the semi-finals.

“Being at college in the US I am able to combine my studies with playing for the university, unlike in Australia,” Georgia said.

“It allows me to play all year long at home and abroad. I also get to play with girls from all over the world who I learn from every day.”
