Jets' powerchair team has been in action again. Jack Gillespie reports on the Round 7 matches in the Queensland Powerchair competition and previews Jets' next games at Bowen Hills PCYC.
GAME 1 v City. Full time 2-0
The match was a great tussle between the sides; non-stop up-and-back action for the full 40 minutes. Jets needed to be resilient in defence, as City were camped down in the Jets' goal area for long periods of time. With a few minutes remaining in the first half, though, City managed a length-of-the-field break that lead to a goal, allowing them to head to the sheds 1-nil up. The Jets came out strong in the second half, creating plenty of scoring opportunities but just couldn't get the ball across the line. They eventually cracked under the pressure from City, and the final scoreline was 2-0. Scorers: #12 Kevin Pretorius #9 Tom Latcham
GAME 2 v Strikers. Full time 2-0
The Strikers are leading the comp for a reason, and they showed why in this match. The Jets had some good opportunities but again failed to capitalise. They moved the ball well in patches, and defended solidly throughout, but in the end Strikers were just too good. Scorer #6 Josh Merkas ROUND 8 (July 20) PREVIEW
GAME 1 v Lions The Lions will be a good test for the Jets, as both teams are looking for a win to regain some confidence and to make sure they don't take home the wooden spoon at season's end.
GAME 2 v City
The Jets have come so close to winning in the past few clashes with City - they'll be doing everything they can to turn that around this match. On the other hand, City are just a couple wins away from the top spot, so they won't take a loss at this stage lightly. It's got all the ingredients for a great match!Â
