Jets' simple target

Moreton Bay United's women and under 18 players preparing or their first NPLW fixtures of 2020.

A significant step will be taken tomorrow on the new ‘pathway’ being taken by Moreton Bay United’s women.

With a young, developing squad, Jets will walk out at Wolter Park to face Logan Lightning (4.30pm kick-off) in Round 1 of this season’s NPLW.

It is the start of fixtures under the club’s long-term plan to show ‘a clear pathway for young players to come through’, as coach Ben Fuhrmann said.

“This is not all about results and success straight away. This is a chance to build something for 2020 and beyond.”

The weather and cancellations have hit Jets’ plans during the summer, but defender Jemima Head said: “We’re positive and not worrying.

“We’ve overcome that by playing games in training so we get the idea of positioning and playing to those around you,” she said.

“Because those matches were not played, we have not really set ourselves targets because we’re not yet sure what we’re capable of.

“Our target is simply to get together as a team, work as a team and progress as individuals and a team as the season goes on.”

Jemima was with Jets in 2018 playing 21 times and scoring once. She returned for the start of 2019 before joining BPLW side Virginia.

However, Jemima was one of the first to re-sign for Moreton Bay United for this season.

“I am very happy to be back,” she said, “this club feels homely to me. I feel very comfortable here.

“I have only known (coach) Ben since the pre-season, but I feel we have a good connection and we’re positive about the club’s plans.”

Jets have three successive home games at the start of their season, against Logan, Easts and The Gap - and finish with a strong home list. Mid-season is dominated by away trips. See full NPLW Qld fixtures below:
