Matt gloves up for Jets

Matt Lugo back at Wolter Park after signing for Moreton Bay United

Goalkeeper Matt Lugo knows what he's "walking into" next season after signing for Moreton Bay United.

Since helping ACE do the Premiership and Grand Final double in 2019, he has played in both the NPL and FQPL, with considerable success.

Matt was between the posts as Logan won FQPL 1 and promotion to the NPL in 2020 - and helped them stay there in 2021.

Last season he was in goal for Rochedale Rovers when they won promotion to the NPL as FQPL 1 runners-up and grand finalists.

"I've had a few good seasons playing FQPL and NPL," said the 26-year-old, "I've learned a lot and matured as a player.

"When Logan went into the NPL, the pace of the game was a shock. We had to adapt and focus.

"From that experience, I have an idea of what I'm walking into (with Jets) and that's probably a good thing."

Another NPL side was also chasing Matt's signature, but a call and "chat" with Jets' coach Cameron Millar proved decisive.

"I know a few players in the squad here and I'm looking forward to it," said Matt.

"Every game will be hard next season. In my opinion, every team which should be in the NPL, is in the NPL next year.

"The competition is getting better and better. Now I want to get down to training hard and have a good consistent season."

Jets' coach Cameron Millar said Matt was a "great addition to our environment".

"I am very pleased to welcome him to the club," the coach said. "He is a talented goalkeeper and more importantly a great person.

"Matt is looking forward to getting to work and is determined to have a successful season."
