Sunshine joins Jets

Sunshine Rutch back in the gold and black of Moreton Bay United

Sunshine Rutch has returned to Moreton Bay United, further boosting our women's forward line.

The 17-year-old winger spent 2020 and 2021 with the QAS (Queensland Academy of Sport) but missed much of last season with a hip flexor injury.

Now fully recovered, two others clubs were also looking for her signature, but she decided wearing gold and black was best next season.

"I felt I needed somewhere I would feel comfortable ... and grow my game," she said.

"I've played with some of the girls here before and Moreton Bay was where I wanted to be."

Sunshine first joined Jets from Ridge Hills and played in the Under 13 Girls in 2016 and 2017 - scoring 18 goals in 13 games in her second season.

That return caught the attention of QAS coaches and she made the switch, scoring six times in 14 games playing in the Under 13 Boys competition in 2019.

The following season Sunshine was playing Under 14 Boys and last year took a sizeable step into the under 23 NPL Women's competition scoring 14 times in 13 games.

Then injury struck and kept her side lined for 18 months. However, the forward will be back in 2023.

Head coach Greg Bradley said: "She's a classy player and it's great to have Sunshine back at Moreton Bay United after a stint at the QAS."

Sunshine will also be in her final school year during 2023. "The work load will be big, but I'll have to manage it," she said.

"I've had a good scoring rate in some seasons and I'd like to try and repeat it next year."
