Tiana's double hat-trick

Tiana Simon, back at training this week, after scoring two hat-tricks in two games on the same morning.

Tiana Simon was in goal-den form on Saturday, scoring two hat-tricks for two different Moreton Bay United teams in successive NPL games on the same morning!

First, she scored three times for Jets’ Under 14 Girls in a 14-0 victory over Virginia on Field 4 (kick-off 9am) at South Pine Sports Complex, Brendale.

Tiana then backed up in the next game, on the same pitch, for Moreton Bay United's Under 16 Girls against The Gap (kick-off 10.30am), coming on as a substitute.

It was goalless entering the final five minutes before Tiana scored in the 76th, 77th and 78th minutes to secure a 3-0 win in her first appearance at that level this season.

“I was surprised, I wasn’t expecting to score three in that amount of time,” said the 14-year-old. “It was right at the end of the game. I just got the ball and went for goal.”

Russ Mahon, coach of Jets’ Under 14 Girls, was delighted: “Saturday was a great day for Tiana - two games, two hat-tricks,” he said.

“Her ability to change a game by backing herself is a great quality to have.”

Greg Bradley, coach of Jets’ Under 16 Girls, said: “Tiana is quality. We know she can finish like that.

“We had dominated the game (against The Gap), but hadn’t taken our chances, so it was a sense of relief and happiness when Tiana scored.”

Tiana played for The Lakes FC before joining Moreton Bay United’s SAP program in 2019.

She also played for Met North in the Under 15 Queensland Schools State Championships in Hervey Bay at the end of last month.

Met North won the title and Tiana was one of four players from Moreton Bay United selected for the Queensland Under 15 Girls’ team.
